Cult Cinema Club is back for a limited-edition series of events for Winter 2025!

Artisan street food, sweet tunes, licensed bar, indie short films and cult classic feature flicks will keep you warm as toast as we keep it all indoors at Cult Cinema Club this Winter!

Our third screening for our Winter Sessions is the Wes Anderson classic, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004).

This film follows eccentric oceanographer Steve Zissou, who sets sail on the high seas, in pursuit of an infamously mysterious shark that allegedly killed his best friend. Joined by his motley crew consisting of Zissou's estranged wife, a journalist, and a man who could potentially be his son, they navigate adventures and challenges of the ocean together, whilst being confronted with the dynamics of their own personal relationships and confronting self-discovery.

From 5pm - 7pm, The Italians food truck will be serving mouthwatering Italian street food dinner options, accompanied by smooth brews from Mount Brewing Co Brewery and candy bar refreshments from the Cult Cinema Club pop-up licensed bar located inside the Village Cinema.

Putting a whole new spin on 'a night out at the flicks', all this wining and dining will be accompanied by a live set of songs fit for a lighthouse keeper and soaked in blood, sweat and salty seawater from local legend, Edward Gains!

Lights down in the cinema from 7pm where cinema-goers are invited to settle in and indulge in top-shelf cinematic viewing with Aotearoa independent short film Sail Away, supported by Film Bay of Plenty, followed by Wes Anderson's The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou!

Film Classifications:
Sail Away: 11 min, classified G for general audiences
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou: 2hrs, classified M (Suitable for mature audiences, violence and offensive language)

*This event and all Cult Cinema Club events are suited for Mature Audiences with +18 licensed bar
