Hosting monthly daytime opera screenings on the second Wednesday of each month, The Incubator Creative Hub is delighted to welcome back Tauranga Opera Forum to our Village Community Cinema.
Carmen is Bizet’s masterpiece of the gypsy seductress who lived by her own rules, a force of nature who has become a defining female cultural figure.
Originally set in the 1830's, this production of the opera by British director Richard Eyre updates the premise by 100 years, taking place in the middle of the Spanish Civil War.
Still creating a resonating impact far beyond the opera house, Carmen has been performed at The Metropolitan Opera close to 1000 times, having been first performed with The Met in 1884 and is still one of the most frequently staged operas in the world.
