In Isabelle Mathys's artmaking, she draws inspiration from her chains of association, emotional experiences, and dreams. She often finds the starting point for her visual storytelling in her surrealist paintings. For this exhibition, she has created a body of work inspired by snapshots of ideas she has collected over the past few years.
Commenting on a recent win Isabelle shared an insight into her work “Two years ago I experienced life at its uttermost stillness and then won an award at the Emerging Artist Awards 2025, the theme of which was "Life out Loud". Wow, what a turnaround! My work “Leap of Faith” was selected for the Adison Award.
Isabelle Mathys holds both a Bachelor and a Master of Arts in Fine Arts from the Lucerne School of Arts and Design in Switzerland, where she studied from 2005 to 2012. She has exhibited in many galleries in Switzerland, and since coming to New Zealand in The Tauranga Art Gallery, Gallery Te Puna and The Peoples Gallery – Toi Ka Rere.
