About the event
I bet you’ve always wondered how to make a silver ring. Or, maybe set a stone…
Join Alexandra Mostyn for a fun filled day of learning and creating with like-minded artists. You will be guided by Alexandra, a silversmith and jewellery designer, who has been teaching workshops here at the Incubator since 2016.
Learn the traditional ways of making a ring using a flat or half round strip of metal, supported by Alexandra, each step of the way. Learn how to saw your metal, anneal it, then bend it into a ring shape. You’ll also learn to solder it shut, solder a bezel for your stone to sit on, and then set your stone and polish your ring. Et Voila! A new handmade ring!
This could be a new hobby for you or a new career. It could be a day of ring making for yourself or for a loved one. Either way, this workshop will ensure you have a fun day, make new friends, and leave with a beautiful handmade ring you will want to show off to everyone, saying, "Oh, thank you! You like my ring? I made this!"
Each workshop has a "Winner of the Day" for the best ring. Winner will receive a $50 Alexandra Mostyn Jewellery gift voucher and for fun, a little bag of Haribo Gummy Bears! The stakes are high!
All precious metal is supplied and you will receive a cabochon stone ranging from 4mm to 10mm in size. All tools are provided, as are safety goggles, aprons and earmuffs. Tea, instant coffee and biscuits are supplied during workshop. All participants need to bring is a packed lunch and water. Closed footwear must be worn and long hair must be tied back. But, also, bring your imagination and best banter for the day!
